Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some frequently asked questions regarding Vvidget Code. To ask your own question join the Vvidget Code Forums.

General:

Does Vvidget Code support Leopard and Xcode 3.0?

  • Yes. Starting with version 10.5, Vvidget Code is a four-way binary (64-bit and 32-bit binaries for PPC and Intel CPUs). The Vvidget Code Interface Builder plugin is for IB 3.0. The Tiger version is also available.

What other software do I need to use Vvidget Code?

  • You do not need additional software to use the vvizard component. To add graphs to your own custom desktop applications you should install the Apple Developer Tools, e.g.: Xcode Tools. Those are provided by Apple and come with Mac OS X. You can, alternatively, use a third party IDE or use gcc at the command line.

Before Installing:

How do I obtain Vvidget Code?

After Installing:

What is the quickest way to program a desktop application with a graph?

  • See the desktop example projects as referenced in the installer literature.

I want a graph without programming, how do I do that?

  • In the Terminal application type this:
    /Library/Vvidget/Helpers/vvizard
    and follow the instructions.

Developing, Programming And Automating Graphs Within Your Own Applications:

What if I get stuck and can't figure out how to program a graph?

  • It should be very easy to program a graph provisioned by the Vvidget API. However, if you have a question then search or post the: Vvidget Code Forums. For individual support or programming support in general contact support@vvi.com.

Can I use Vvidget to program graphs (i.e.: automate the import of data onto a graph using a program I write)?

  • To program graphs into your own desktop applications you need to purchase the Code portion of Vvidget (i.e.: Vvidget Code). The "Code" product includes a programming reference manual and some example desktop and dashboard widget projects. See Vvidget Code for additional information or if you would like to get it now, click one of these links: Commercial Use ($189) or Educational Use ($79). That is all you need to program graphs into your own applications (assuming that you have an IDE like Xcode).

Once I develop an application with Vvidget can I press Vvidget along with my own application to a CD? And also offer it on my own web site for download without relying on VVI?

  • You need to purchase a redistribution license. Contact VVI at sales@vvi.com for that purpose.
