Line Fitting With Least Squares
July 7, 2008

VVI® today released version 1.0 of the "Least Squares" application which computes and displays linear regression. Main points include:

  • Function: Least Squares accepts data points and computes a line fit to that data (linear model, linear regression analysis).

  • Form: Least Squares has a concise and elegant user interface that shows how a focused single-purposed application can be used to learn about regression and also efficiently explore data sets. In other words, because of its elegance it can be used as a teaching tool for regression and as a precise and professional data exploration tool.

  • Amazing Power: With the Export Button, Least Squares' scatter and line fit graph appears in a powerful layout application for publication ready results.

  • Extensibility: Vvidget Code includes the Least Squares Xcode project source code which can be used as a starting point for your own data analysis applications. Data entry can come from sources other than the user interface, such as a database, flat files, algorithms and instrumentation.

  • Programming Concept: Lazy loading of resources and prompting for base system installation.

About Vvidget: Tens of thousands of Mac users have downloaded Vvidget, making it one of the most popular point-and-click graphing solutions for Mac OS X. That same software is used to automate graphs for desktop applications, dashboard widgets and web sites. Vvidget has been used for years by Mac independent software vendors, corporate developers and technical professionals because it is easy to use, integrates seamlessly with the application development tools provided with Mac OS X, is widely available with free download of the base system and can be combined and redistributed with developer's own applications.
